Message from Fr. Seth upon his acceptance of a new calling as the Rector of Christ Church in Covington, LA
Dearly Beloved in Christ,
Ecclesiastes tells us there is “a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven.”
There is wisdom in knowing that we all have seasons in our lives. We are called to different work at different times and in different places. From Abraham and the Old Testament prophets to Jesus’ first disciples, to followers of Christ today, we are called to serve in seasons, at different times and in different places. We listen to the direction of the Holy Spirit and then we must respond.
It is from a place of prayerful listening that has led me to accept a new call as the Rector of Christ Church in Covington, La. It is bittersweet news that my season of ministry here at St. Michael’s will soon come to its conclusion but I believe that what God called me here to do, has with your help and to God’s glory, even if imperfectly, been accomplished. It is time for a new season of ministry.
This July 10th will be my last Sunday as your Rector. July 15th will be my last day in the church office. I will begin a new call as Rector of Christ Church in Covington, La this August.
Know that we deeply love our St. Michael’s family. This is a special place where the Holy Spirit is at work. Amy, Mary Brooks, Eliza, Mae, and I will always cherish our dear friendships and our time here at St. Michael’s. I ask your prayers for our family in this time of transition as I offer my prayers to you.
Every ending is also a beginning. I am confident that St. Michael’s best days are ahead. We have weathered the challenges of the pandemic and the destruction of the hurricanes. The church has been rebuilt. The Recovery House, Pavilion, and first phase of the Prayer Garden will be completed by the end of this summer and will serve countless people for good. Parishioners are returning to church. A new day dawns. God is good.
You have my respect, love, and admiration. The people of St. Michael’s will always hold a special place in my heart. Our mutual ministry has been such a powerful blessing to me. In short, you have made me a better priest by your faithful and loving witness.
May God continue to bless you and your work here. "May the Holy Spirit, who has begun a good work in you, direct and uphold you in the service of Christ and his kingdom. Amen." (BCP 310)
Blessings and God’s Peace,
